Award winning Couture Designer and Dressmaker, Sue Parker will guide you to make garments that suit you, fit you and that you will be proud to wear. Suitable for all sewers. Work on your own garments or for new sewers, or those seeking a refresher, make and finish an unlined skirt using a commercial pattern . The items below will be needed for the completion of your garment. Many of you may already have some of these items. However, do not purchase anything beforehand. Come to the first lesson just with a pen and paper as important information will be given in regard to patterns, fabric and haberdashery at that first lesson. You will then be able to go ahead and purchase what you need and be ready to begin your garment in Week 2. • BYO sewing machine in good working order, including manual, all presser feet and the correct bobbins for your machine. If your machine is new, you need to have taken it out of the box and learned how to thread up, wind a bobbin and practised stitching, so that you have a basic understanding of how the machine works. • Skirt pattern • Trace and Toile (pattern tracing medium) • Fabric, washed and pressed • 30 cm of appropriate interfacing • 20 cm dress zip • Matching polyester thread (Gutermann brand) • Tape measure • Dressmaking scissors • Paper cutting scissors • Long, fine dressmaking pins (Birch glass head is good) • Seam ripper (Quick unpick) • Fabric marking pencils in contrasting colours • Hand sewing needles (sharps) • Clear plastic ruler • Lead pencil • Ball point pen • Scotch brand Magic Tape (Officeworks or newsagent)
